Festival Week | 7-13 November

If just one day of festivities isn’t enough for you, this year the Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival is proud to present an entire WEEK of activities leading up to the big day!

Running from Monday the 7th until Sunday the 13th of November, check out what various bars and breweries around Dunedin will be doing as part of the festival week. Including beer & whisky matchings, brewery trails, seminars, celebrity chef Josh Emett and more, there’s plenty of activities to tantalise your taste buds and quench your thirst for knowledge – and beer!


Tap Takeovers!

Ombrellos, Inch Bar, Emerson’s, Tonic, Albar, Portsider

Kicking off the week of festivities, various bars from around town will be hosting Tap Take-overs from breweries attending the festival! Just head over to Ombrellos, Inch Bar, Emerson’s, Tonic, Albar, or The Portsider anytime in the evening to start your week of beer, food and entertainment!


Whisky & Cheese Pairing with Richard Emerson

Dog With Two Tails Cafe & Bar, 25 Moray Place 

Whisky is a sipping drink, a thinking and sharing drink with complex aromas and flavours that draw you into its’ story. Similar to wine, whisky’s flavours are layered and can be complemented by food; Richard Emerson, founder of the celebrated Emerson’s Brewery will be taking us through five single malt whiskies and pairing them with five New Zealand cheeses.

Come and experience the melding of flavours and the stories behind them in the quirky and creative environment that is Dog With Two Tails Cafe & Bar. Broaden your palate, learn a little more about whisky, and take a walk on the wilder side of cheese.

Science of Beer with the University of Otago and Invercargill Breweries

Ombrellos Kitchen and Bar • 5.30 pm welcome, 6pm start

What’s wrong with my beer? If you cannot tell diacetyl from DMS and your friends keep declining a second glass of your cherished home brew, then maybe this is the workshop for you. Graham Eyres and Phil Bremer from the Department of Food Science at the University of Otago will highlight some common flavour defects in beer.

You will be able to test your powers of detection, learn to name those sensory attributes that were on the ‘tip of your tongue’, discover the reason why the off-flavour is present, and importantly get some tips on steps that home brewers can take to reduce the possibility of producing “interesting” beer.

Invercargill Breweries will be providing the control beer – B-Man Lager – and brewer Steve McNally will be attending to share his experience. Bar nibbles and tasters included.

Emerson’s Workshop Single Hop Series Release

Inch bar, 8 Bank Street • 6.30pm onwards

Emerson’s Brewery has a new Spiritual home in Dunedin, 70 Anzac Ave as part of our new brewery we have been able to develop a 1200L Pilot Brewery the “Emerson’s Workshop”. This gives the Brew Crew the chance to experiment and innovate with fermentation. Over the last few months the team have been developing an Emerson’s Workshop Single Hop series of beers. The first two to be released are Single Hop Mosaic Pale Ale and Single Hop Ella Pale Ale, two beers using the same recipe with two completely differing hop variants.

Join the Emerson’s and Inch Bar team on Thursday 10 November at Inch Bar to sample these liquid delights and a number of other fantastic Emerson’s brews. Inch Bar is a Dunedin institution, small in stature but large in reputation – they started pouring Emerson’s in 1995 and continue to play an important part in the Emerson’s culture to this day.

Grain Vs Grape Feast hosted by Josh Emett

Madam Woo, 115 Lower Stuart St • 6.30-8.30pm

Join critically acclaimed celebrity chef, Josh Emett for a four course Feast showcasing Madam’s BIG FLAVOURS at his Dunedin restaurant, Madam Woo. Joining Josh will be Hallertau Brewery owner and chief brewer, Stephen Plowman, who will pit the best brews from his award winning West Auckland brewery against some of the finest wines that NZ has to offer.

Each course will be matched with one beer (grain) and one wine (grape) and it will be up to you to decide which combination best compliments the Malaysian Feast that Masterchef Josh Emett serves up.

Madam Woo serves up authentic Malaysian Hawker Food in a fast, fresh and fun setting. The menu draws from many of the chef’s authentic family recipes to create big, vibrant flavours. The signature dishes embody the Woo ethos of big flavours and feature the famous Madam Woo Hawker rolls, which have generated a cult-like following.

DCBFF Afterparty at Vault 21

Vault 21 in the Octagon • 7pm til late

If you’re still keen for more fun once the festival has finished, head over to Vault 21 in the heart of the Octagon for the official afterparty. Live music and delicious food and drinks.

Free entry for all those who attended the festival!

Kicks off as soon as the festival finishes and goes until late.


Emerson’s Taproom Sunday Brunch with the Brewers

Emerson’s Taproom, 70 Anzac Ave • 10am-11.30am

After a successful day at the Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival what better way to spend Sunday morning than with a few of the brewers that produced the liquid delights. Emerson’s Taproom is located within a strong arms throw from the Forsyth Barr Stadium, we warmly welcome participants from the Festival to join Richard Emerson and a number of other brewers to an enjoyable lazy Sunday Brunch and a complimentary coffee, tea or fruit juice for the kids to kick the day into action.

The Emerson’s Brewhouse and Workshop Micro Brewery will be open to have a roam around and chat to some of the team about all things Emerson’s.
